English as an Additional Language

Edmonton Public Schools has over 50 years of experience providing high-quality English as an Additional Language programming. All Edmonton Public Schools programming is based on curriculum determined by Alberta Education. Students enrolled in English as an Additional Language will receive the same high-quality education offered in all of our programs. You are assured of receiving instruction at your level to meet your needs while taking academic courses with your Canadian peers.

• Edmonton Public Schools does not have a minimum English language requirement for admission
• EAL is available at all levels.
• Students’ English language levels are assessed on arrival, and they are placed into age-appropriate classes and programs at their English level.
• EAL students are gradually integrated into a regular classroom as language skills progress and improve.
• Students are counseled regarding school programming and advised on requirements for post-secondary studies
